The Cross of the Victory of Asturias was donated to the Cathedral of Oviedo by Alfonso III the Great, in the year 908, as an object destined for the liturgy. According to legend, the wooden cross found inside the Cruz de la Victoria was the one Don Pelayo carried at the battle of Covadonga in 722, in which the Asturian troops defeated the Muslims.
